Charles Town Chomping at the Bit
Charles
Town Races and Slots cannot wait to see
if table games get approved at their
location. Early voting has started, and
the official date for residents to cast
their ballot is June 9th. However, the
track is encouraging people to hit the
early voting lines as they will be
shorter.
The Track would also like to see more
early voters as they know that this
might give them an idea of whether or
not the vote is going to go their way.
Jefferson and Ohio Counties are the
first to offer the vote for table games,
and if approved, they will join slot
machines at the two racetracks. The
other counties have theirs scheduled for
June 30th – Hancock, and August 11th –
Kanawha.
The track is not alone in wanting the
table games approved, they are joined by
officials in Jefferson County, as well
as the Jefferson County Economic
Development Authority and a group called
YES! On the Jefferson County Table Game
Revenues & Jobs Referendum. Their
supporters know that they will be
bringing in millions of dollars in
funding for the county, as well as much
needed jobs.
Some of the revenue will go toward their
schools, some to the areas horsemen, and
some for senior at-home programs. There
are several other uses for the money in
the works as well. Charles Town plans on
adding 75 tables to their existing slot
machines in the first expansion phase,
and then possibly adding more later.
