Conservative Group Fighting Expanded
Gambling
The West
Virginia Family Foundation has announced
that they will be filing their motion to
stop table games from coming to West
Virginia by the end of next week. They
say that they are going to use every
means possible to block the June 9th
elections on table games, and that the
new vote is not even constitutionally
legal.
They are arguing that the law the
legislature is using to bring in table
games to join their slot machines was
never set up to be used for bringing in
casinos, and that it was just meant to
allow lotteries in the state. They say
that the people are being taken
advantage of so that the state can make
a buck.
However, the president of the West
Virginia Racing Association says that he
is ready for any challenges that the
group might face. John Cavacini says
that he knew there would be a lawsuit
against them, and they have been waiting
for it. He has been meeting with their
lawyers in anticipation of the lawsuit.
Cavacini says that they have known since
day one that it would be challenged, but
he is confident that it won’t hold up in
court. He says that their lawyers are
completely prepared to fight their
claims that it isn’t constitutional, and
that they are fully expecting to win.
However, he does say that the longer
this drags out the more money it will
cost the state, and the fewer jobs that
they will be able to offer.
