Counties Split on Vote
West
Virginia is having a day of voting for
its residents – and it was supposed to
be June 9th. Originally all four
counties that will be voting on whether
or not to legalize table games were
going to hold their election on the same
day – but due to missed deadlines that
won’t be happening now.
In order to hold their elections on June
9th, all four counties had to meet their
legal deadline for advertising the vote.
Jefferson and Ohio made that deadline,
but Kanawha and Hancock did not.
Therefore, it looks as though there will
now be two days of voting for the
legalization of the table games.
They needed to have 30 days of
advertisements announcing the election,
and both counties missed the mark for
the deadline and therefore need to
postpone their elections. The ones that
made their deadline are now looking at
June 9th on their own, and the two that
missed their deadlines are looking at
June 30th.
It is up to the counties as to what they
ultimately end up doing, because the way
the law is written regarding the table
games vote is unclear as to how it
should be worked. There is also some
confusion as to whether or not they have
to start from scratch or if they can
just postpone the election. The
Secretary of State says it is up to the
individual counties how they want to
handle it.
