Delaware Considering Sports Betting
Delaware
already has slot machine parlors and
racinos, so why not add sports betting
to the mix? The News Journal suggests
that it is the next smart step for
gambling in the state, and that it would
bring in more patrons to the slot
machine parlors and the racinos as well.
Officials say that by adding sports
betting to their legalized betting
options, that they could help the state
compete with the casinos that have been
opening in Pennsylvania and elsewhere.
They also argue that it has the
potential to bring in another $70
million in tax revenue to the state. Of
that amount, $9.3 million would be just
from the sports betting, and the rest
would be from those who came for sports
betting and stayed to play slot machines
– hence bringing in more revenue.
Many gambling experts think that the
amount of money that they are allotting
to the slot machine runoff, if you will,
is way over inflated. They say that they
find it hard to believe that that many
slot machine players will come out of
sports betting. They say that when it
comes to gambling, most gamblers will
stick with what they know and what they
like – they say there isn’t a lot of
sports betters playing slot machines and
vice versa.
Experts also say that since the majority
of a casino’s business is generated by
only about 20% of their customers, and
those customers are usually only
interested in the slot machines. They
say that for the report to suggest that
they would be bringing in that many more
people to make a difference that it is
grossly misleading.
