Table
Games Election Set
The
Jefferson County Commission has already
signed off on the decision to hold the
special election for table games on June
9th, and the Charles Town Races & Slots
owners are ready for the vote. They feel
confident that residents will see how
beneficial the games will be to their
community, for the amount of money that
is expected to come in from them will be
substantial.
The vote is set for a Saturday since
most people will be off from work and
able to make it to the polls. The track
says that they are ready for the
results, which is good because early
voting started May 18th. They already
offer slot machines and racing, but if
the bill is passed, they will be able to
add roulette, blackjack and craps to
their line up. Early voting will end
June 6th, two days before the official
election day.
The commission does not know how much
this election is going to cost, but the
track is paying for the full price of
it. It is a simple ballot with a yes or
no answer required. There has already
been telephone polls conducted with
track officials trying to get a feel for
how residents of the county might swing.
The track has roughly 4,200 slot
machines already, and is excited about
the possibility of adding table games to
the gambling options they will be able
to give their patrons. The county will
already be getting an estimated $8
million a year in slot machine revenue,
and the table games should add somewhere
close to a million in revenue to that
number. Not only that they but they will
be adding about 500 more jobs to the
county as well.
