Gambling TV Gone Awry
For those
of you looking for a way to spend their
Sundays, there is a new show on called
South Florida Sunday. This new
political, as well as educational show
has been touted by some as the best way
to find out all the relevant news that
is fit to be heard. This political show
is surely the best way to find out what
is going on in South Florida both
politically, and yes, educationally.
Now, you mustn’t mind however, that
there really isn’t too much educational,
but mostly political mumbo-jumbo going
on here. Their new show is actually just
one long ad for slot machines and
gambling in South Florida. The “show” is
actually just a paid programming show
that is paid for by none other than
Mardi Gras Gaming – who had several
promos throughout the show.
The show is hosted by Evan Jenne. For
those of you who are not familiar with
this name, he is the son of Broward
County Sheriff Ken Jenne, who is
currently under investigation for
alleged corruption. The younger Jenne is
a freshman Florida legislator, and he
ends up spending the show speaking with
the owners of Mardi Gras Gaming and
another lawmaker – Joe Gibbons. But the
educational part? Well, it hasn’t
happened yet, I guess. Instead these men
sit and talk about how great slot
machines and gambling are, and that the
benefit the entire community. Guess they
haven’t talked to the growing number of
slot machine addicts.
These men sit and discuss what a great
deal Broward County got bringing in all
of those slot machines, and that since
there was already pari-mutuels that it
really isn’t even an expansion of
gambling. After the men finished
discussing it and more people came in to
talk about how great slot machines were
as well, the show ended. However, I was
still looking for the educational part
of it. Wait, I did learn one thing, I’d
rather be weeding than watching South
Florida Sunday – so I guess it was
educational after all.
