Off in Vegas
Gaming
figures were off for the month of
February according to the Nevada Gaming
Control Board. They say that slot
machine revenues were down, as were
table game revenues, but baccarat
numbers were especially high. They had
the Chinese New Year during the month of
February, which accounts for the
increase in high wagering on baccarat.
However, with the events that the
casinos in Vegas had going on, you would
think that their numbers would be
higher. They had a three day President’s
Day Weekend, a ten day Chinese New Year,
and they played host for the first time
to the NBA All Star Game. With these
events all taking place in one month,
experts say that their numbers should
have been higher than previous years,
but for some reason their increase was
lower.
Experts say that table games revenue has
been low for the last two months, and
with slot machine revenue being down
this month they say they have to keep an
eye on their numbers for March. They say
they have not seen slot machines decline
for two months in a row since 9-11, so
they want to make sure that it does not
happen again.
Some casinos, such as the MGM Mirage,
are excited about the fact that baccarat
numbers are high. They say that those
are usually their higher number games,
and they bring in a higher wagering
clientele – so if those numbers are up
that means that their numbers will be
up. They say that the majority of their
revenue comes from the baccarat tables,
so this is especially good for them.
