Greek Gambling Arrests

Three more internet cafes were raided, resulting in arrests for illegal online gambling. Three internet gambling café owners were under arrest, as were six of their players, in Arta, Western Greece. The Greek police are cracking down on these illegal online gambling cafés and parlors, and say that they will not rest until they close them all down.

The authorities say that illegal betting will be dealt with quickly and surely, but some would choose to ignore that warning. The UK based William Hill is talking about challenging Greece if they did not get a gambling license in the country. They say that they are entitled to offer gambling there as they are both members of the European Union.

Greece is held by the same laws and restrictions as the other countries in the EU states policy, and they cannot have a monopoly on something such as online gambling since they are a member. They must abide by the rules for free passage and trade.

OPAP is Greece’s only officially allowed betting organization, and the government has interests in the group. The president of OPAP said that no one was going to be allowed to operate betting in OPAP except for Greece. He said that they are losing money daily in their state and they are going to do everything they have to in order to protect their interests. They will not allow any gambling with other countries.
