Philadelphia Park’s Slot Machines
Philadelphia Park Casino has only been
open for four months, yet they are
supposedly in need of more slot
machines. The casino says that they are
so busy that they need more slot
machines, bars and lounges to handle the
crowds that have been coming in. They
have already brought in almost $1
billion in bets since it opened near the
end of December, and show no signs of
stopping.
They told the state that they are going
to need about 336 more slot machines to
bring their total to 2,412. Many say
that the casino already has more than
enough slot machines and feel that their
request should be denied. They say that
with slot machines ultimately come crime
and despair, and that the casino is only
going to add to that by bringing in more
slot machines.
However, police say that that is not the
case. They say that not only will more
slot machines not hurt the area, the
first group did not either. They report
that gambling has not brought any
additional crime to the area, as far as
that outside the casino. There have been
problems at the casino with accidents
and thefts, but those are within the
casino – not outside of it.
Township police say that the casino has
a zero tolerance policy and at any sort
of problem they call the police. They
said that they have made 16 arrests but
they feel that is a very small amount
considering what the slot machines could
have brought in. Since opening, the
casino has brought in $923 million,
which puts them in the front for
revenue. Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs
opened about a month earlier, but they
are only at $676 million. Harrah’s
opened about a month after them and they
have brought in $627 million.
