Pittsburgh Steelers Concerned About
Traffic
The
Pittsburgh Steelers are still concerned
that bringing in a slot machine casino
is going to muck up traffic even worse
than it has been. They say that the
amount of traffic that they have to deal
with on game days is bad enough, but if
you add casino traffic to that mess it
is only going to get worse.
Don Barden is planning on building his
new slot machine casino very close to
the Pittsburgh Steelers arena – Heinz
Field - , which is also near where the
Pittsburgh Pirates Play (PNC Park.) Then
there is the issue of the Carnegie
Science Center, which has already been
impacted by the football and baseball
patrons, and they believe it will be
unfathomable with a slot machine casino
there too.
The casino’s master plan has not been
approved yet, but it goes up for vote on
May 29th. Included in that plan must be
a comprehensive traffic study, so that
they know what they are looking at come
game days. The planning commission has
said they will review the data and let
them know what they decide on vote day.
The Steelers have threatened to sue if
the planning commission gives the
go-ahead to the slot machine casino
without the results of the study, and
city planners are saying that there just
isn’t enough time to do that kind of
study before the vote. The planning
commission suggested having the vote and
doing the study later, but the team is
not interested.
