Plainridge Would Like Slot Machines
Plainridge Racecourse in Plainville
wants slot machines. They have decided
to petition Governor Deval Patrick to
see if they can show him the way to
making it happen for them, arguing that
with gambling expanding as it has in
Rhode Island and Lincoln Park – that it
just makes sense to add slot machines to
Plainridge.
The governor has not made up his mind
one way or another, even after senators
and representatives alike met with him
to urge him to consider the slot machine
addition at the racetrack. They say they
spoke of the proximity of slot machines
to them now, and how it could really
help them economically to add them.
Lawmakers think that adding slot
machines to the racetrack would only
make the area even more attractive to
people. They say that with the mall and
the stadium right there, they would be
able to bring in more and more people,
which equates to revenue and to jobs.
They say that although the governor may
not have signed on right away, they
believe that he is giving it serious
consideration.
Last month the governor met with
Democrats and discussed the pros and
cons of adding slot machines to the
track, and the bi partisan group that
met with him this time said that they
did it to stress the importance of
adding the slot machines. They said that
since they missed out on the meeting
last time, they were honored that the
governor would take the time to meet
with them as well.
