Seattle Mayor’s Son Indicted
There was
a plan, there were people to carry out
the plan, and the plan was almost
successful, and then it wasn’t. That is
pretty much the wrap up of a plan to rip
off a casino by several people, one of
whom just happens to be the son of
Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels.
The United States Department of Justice
is alleging that Jacob Dyson Nickels was
involved in a scheme that would have
cheated the Emerald Queen Casino and the
Nooksack River Casino out of more than
one million dollars. He is not alone, in
that several Washington residents were
indicted as well.
The plan was to allegedly bribe casino
employees to rig the games by pretending
to shuffle the cards, but not really
shuffling them. This would make it
easier for those involved to know the
order of the cards and to win money
illegally. Nickels was the pit boss at
one of the casinos where they were
trying the scheme.
Nickels was allegedly paid $5,000 to
introduce the dealers at the Nooksack
casino to the participants in the false
shuffle scheme. Supposedly they tried
the same scam at the Emerald Queen
Casino and several employees were
indicted there as well. All in all there
were 24 defendants.
The mayor and his wife simply said that
they had just heard of the charges and
that they were going to support their
son “throughout this difficult time. “
They also said that they were going to
encourage him to cooperate with the
justice department.
