Weirdly
enough, there is only one track in the
entire world that offers both horse
racing and dog racing in the same place.
Every other track is either one or the
other. The historic Anthony Downs is
that track, but if things continue the
way they are, it may not be for much
longer.
The track, as are all tracks, is
hemorrhaging money. They need slot
machines and/or table games to keep them
going and they keep going to their state
governments asking them for money to
help them stay afloat. However, some
governments are helping by legalizing
slot machines or giving them some sort
of subsidy, and others are unable to
offer assistance.
That could change for the track however,
as it looks as though Governor Kathleen
Sebelius will be signing a gambling bill
this week that will help them out. There
is an expanded gambling bill out there
that will allow some slot machines, but
they won’t be able to go crazy with
them.
As the races have been losing tens of
thousands in each of the past three
years, something had to be done.
However, if you just let the track go on
and go on, it will continue losing money
and eventually would have to close.
Revenue has been down, so this new bill
should perk things up for them.
