Wales Smoking Ban

The new smoking ban in Wales went into affect at the beginning of April, and many residents are very excited by it. They say that they can already see and smell the difference in the various places that they go to. England’s ban will go into effect in July, and since very few of their residents smoke, it is something that the majority of the country is going to benefit from.

However, many businesses are not happy about the ban, and are not really prepared to deal with it. Many don’t even know what will happen to them if they break the ban and allow their customers to smoke. The new law basically prohibits smoking in any internal space, and anyone who allows smoking in their establishment will face a fine up to £2,500.

They also have to put up No Smoking signs or face another fine of £200. Any employer that does not take care to ensure a nonsmoking environment for their employees will have to pay for the medical care of anyone who gets ill as a result of it. Some businesses did not even know that they weren’t allowed to have designated smoking rooms anymore.

But businesses are afraid of the effect it will have on their bottom line. The Bingo industry will most likely be affected the most by it, as they are predicting that roughly 200 establishments will have to close as a result of the ban. They say when people take their breaks between games they usually hit the slot machines. They can play the slot machines and smoke at the same time. Now, they will go outside to have a cigarette instead of staying inside and leaving more money at the hall.
