Female Gamblers Have Their Own Meetings

It seems that female gamblers have been having some problems with getting assistance for their slot machine and gambling addictions, as they feel “stigmatized” for it. The UK has realized this issue and is doing something about it.

The UK is now offering meetings for “women only” in an attempt to get more women to seek help with their slot machine and gambling addictions. A recent study has shown that not only are women the fastest growing group of slot machine and gambling patrons, but they are also the fastest growing in terms of addiction.

Add to all of that the fact that it is harder for them to get help for their addiction, and you end up with a real mess. Now Gamblers Anonymous has stepped in to try and get these women help by offering special meetings just for women so that they won’t feel embarrassed speaking in front of men.

Women said that they often felt too much pressure at the male dominated meetings, so they thought that it might be a good idea to offer some that are just for them. If all goes well, and they are able to convince enough women to come for help, they will start offering weekly meetings.

The UK has a much bigger problem with female slot machine gamblers hiding out as they feel that it is socially unacceptable and “in conflict with their traditional roles.” However, in the US women openly gamble which is why it is easier for them to seek help.
