Grant Requests Approved
The
Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has
approved more slot machine grant
requests. The PGCB has approved three
more grant requests to the tune of
$387,442 which will be used in the fight
against illegal slot machines.
The PGCB issues these grants so that
local law enforcement agencies can fund
various programs that they use to find
those that are operating illegal slot
machines and shut them down. This was
the fifth set of approvals that the
Board has given.
The Board has a $5 million annual grant
program that cities can apply for to
crack down on illegal slot machines. The
program was developed by the Legislature
as a part of the Pennsylvania Race Horse
Development and Gaming Act.
For each of these illegal slot machines
that they find, they are bringing in
millions to the state that would have
otherwise gone into private pockets. The
program has been running for less than a
year, and the money comes from licensed
slot machine venues.
There have already been 19 other grants
approved by the Board, which are used
for identification, deterrence and
prevention. They can be used for
education and training events or
programs that will help them crack down
on these illegal slot machine parlors.
However, the state wants to be very
clear that those small private clubs
that offer games of chance have no
worries when it comes to a crackdown.
The slot machines that they are trying
to eliminate are the illegal slot
machine dens.
