The
Mohegan Sun wants to bring in slot
machines because they know how much
money they can make for their pockets.
The state wants to see slot machines
come in because they know how much money
they will get for their under funded
programs and their budget. However,
residents are not as sure as they all
are because they know that the slot
machines will ultimately end up in their
back yards or very close to them.
State Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill has
proposed legalizing slot machines in the
state in various slot machine parlors
across the state. It would also allow
for 1,500 slot machines statewide, which
some residents are for and some are
against. The Mohegan Sun would like to
bring in slot machines and a full casino
which would cost roughly $1 billion and
would be located on 152 acres opposite
the state Turnpike exit.
They and Cahill are expected to show up
at a forum that will be held in Palmer
at the high school auditorium to discuss
the slot machine proposal. The town’s
Economic Development Advisory Committee
is hosting the event on May 14th and
they are planning to discuss the slot
machine decision and to get input from
Palmer residents.
The town says that they are somewhat
interested in the growth that could come
from bringing in the slot machines but
they are concerned with how many are
they going to have in their neck of the
woods. They are also concerned that if
they let the casino come in, how many of
these slot machine parlors would be
siphoning off revenues from it or if
they are close enough to have an impact
on them.
