Money for State
With the
opening of Sands Casino coming sooner
than originally anticipated, the state
of Pennsylvania could not be happier.
The state had counted on the opening in
June, but instead it will open in May
which means one whole month more of slot
machine revenue coming into the state.
The Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem will
have about 3,000 slot machines, and is
situated in the old Iron Works of the
state.
Many residents cannot wait to get in to
play the slot machines, while others
cannot wait just to get in to see what
they have done with the inside. Either
way, all that anticipation and business
means that the state will see an extra
payment of revenue from the slot
machines. They are estimating that the
city of Bethlehem will get somewhere
around $500,000 and Northampton County
will get around $80,000 additional
revenue from the slot machines.
The money is an estimation based on the
number of slot machines that they will
have upon opening. If they bring in an
additional 2,000 slot machines in
November, the amount of revenue will
increase. The state says that they have
been conservative in their budgeting
until they see how much money actually
comes from the slot machines. They know
that there will be an initial boost to
slot machine revenue numbers because it
is a new thing, but that should taper
off some as the newness wears off.
Some counties have not put any slot
machine revenue into their budgets and
others have been conservative in the
amounts that they have put in. They say
that they don’t want to count on a
certain amount of slot machine revenue
assisting their bottom lines and then be
stuck when that money does not come in.
