Machines in Ohio’s Budget
It has
been said on more than one occasion that
Ohio residents do not want slot
machines. The state has had numerous
votes for slot machines come up and each
time the residents have voted against
legalizing them. Then just a few weeks
ago the Ohio Racing Commission tried to
get a slot machine bill passed that
would not only allow slot machines at
the tracks but it would do it without
the residents getting to vote on it.
The House and Senate would simply vote
yes on the bill which would allow slot
machines to be brought into the state.
This outraged the residents of the state
and the Governor said that he would not
sign a bill that the residents have made
it so clear that they are against.
However, it seems that they are not done
with their attempts to get slot machines
into the tracks.
The Ohio House has now passed a budget
that would allow slot machines in the
state. For those that are opposed to
slot machines they would have to veto
the budget in order to get the slot
machines off of there. For those that
are for the slot machines this is the
perfect way to get what they want
without having to go through the
residents of the state.
They are trying to make it seem as if
slot machines are “pertinent” to the
budget and to the future of the
racetracks. They say that without slot
machines they are doomed to have to
close down the tracks and that would
mean people losing jobs – which makes
them pertinent and thus able to get them
on the budget.
