Pari-Mutuels Banking on Old Races

The pari-mutuel industry in Florida has had a lot of problems getting going and really staying the course. But now they think that they might have a lock on the whole slot machine thing which would start bringing them in a lot of money. They are bringing in Historic slot machines which means that they are bringing in games that run old races for people to bet on.

For some people this sounds like a lot of fun. They get to play a glorified slot machine by betting on horse races that have already happened. They would not be told what race was running, but it will be something from the past. The slot machines would give statistics on the horses and jockeys but no other information.

The House and the Senate are still working out the details after all this time and many say that the biggest problem is that the state wants the slot machine revenue without bringing in the slot machines – good luck with that one! However, they feel that the slot machines would bring in a lot of money for the state, but they have a problem with the machines themselves. They know that they have to approve them now that Miami Dade and Broward counties have already allowed slot machines in, but that doesn’t make it any easier.

The state is allowing the slot machines, and poker, but not blackjack, at locations other than Seminole reservation casinos. The tribe had made a deal with Governor Charlie Crist to allow these types of gambling, and they are still running them while the state figures out the details of the deal without a deal.
