Tax
Reductions from Slot Machines
There
were the days of promises, and then the
days of waiting, and now it seems that
the slot machines are finally going to
start paying off for residents in
Pennsylvania. According to the state,
their figures are looking good for the
year and they say that they should be
close to what they were last year. Some
areas might see a lesser amount, but for
the most part things are better than
they were two years ago.
The Philadelphia suburbs for example
will still see a tax cut from the slot
machine revenue, but they won’t see as
much this year as last. This year the
tax relief is roughly $139 million which
is $169,000 less than last year.
Property owners will see anywhere from
$73 to $641 in tax reductions in
Chester, Delaware and Montgomery
Counties.
But the way that it is handled varies
per area of the state. In the city it
works as a credit toward wage tax
percentage, and in the suburbs it acts
as a tax credit. Some say that it should
be handled the same way for everyone,
but they say that depending on where you
live it should determine how the slot
machine revenue gets applied.
Those property owners outside Philly and
Scranton will get a good chunk of the
property tax relief from the slot
machines, but it will still be less than
what they got last year for the most
part. With the money being divided up
among more homeowners this year because
more people have registered, the slot
machines are not going to be able to
keep up with the demand. However, most
homeowners say that anything they get is
better than nothing.
