That Was Quick
Is it
the shortest opening in history of a
casino? Possibly. The casino has opened
their doors, so to speak, and closed
them as well, the same day. There was no
actual gambling, the slot machines were
there but no one was playing them. There
were sixteen slot machines set up in a
tent across the street from the Las
Vegas Convention Center, and no one even
showed up to play them. Sad tale? Not
really, for this is exactly what they
thought would happen, and so up and down
in one day was not a big deal.
The
casino, which didn’t even give itself a
name, had opened their doors at 6 am,
and then closed them at 2 pm. They did
not want to make money, they simply
needed to keep the zoning designation
for the location that would allow
unrestricted gambling. They have to have
some form of gambling going on every 18
months in the location or they lose the
designation – thus the pop up casino
that came to that location.
Sometimes when they need to keep these
zoning laws in place, the casino owners
will bring in slot machines in trailers
to show that there is gambling in that
location. However, this time around they
simply put up a tent, stuck some slot
machines under it and then called it a
day shortly thereafter United Coin
Machine Co. was hired to create the
casino by the land owner, Marriot
International. Insane? Maybe, but when
you look at Vegas and you think about
the millions that are made from the slot
machines, it does not seem all that
crazy after all.
