More Aggressive Slot Machine Regulation
Needed
The
Colorado Gaming Commission needs to look
at how they are spending their money on
slot machine regulation. It has been
found that they have the least amount of
regulators out of the 11 states that
offer slot machines commercially, and
because of those numbers, they are
lacking in regulatory controls. The slot
machines that are on the floor have been
found to be illegal or working
improperly and some have been that way
for more than two years.
Other
states have a much more aggressive
commitment to the slot machine industry;
they ensure that the public is playing a
legal slot machine, as well as one that
is working properly. They discovered
that Missouri not only have one
regulator for every 1,600 slot machines,
but they also check each and every slot
machine before it goes on the floor. If
it is found to be lacking in any way, it
is immediately removed. New Jersey does
the same thing, and has one regulator to
every 1,300 slot machines.
Nevada
has 182 slot inspectors, but they also
have the most slot machines in the
country. However, it still works out to
one official for every 1,100 slots.
Colorado no longer checks the slot
machines before they go out on the
floor, which could mean that a faulty
slot machine ends up on the game floor
before anyone even has looked at it. The
state has 90 days to check out the
machine, but if something is wrong with
it, it has been operating for 90 days.
