Gulfstream’s Slot Machines are Open for
Business
Floridians have been waiting a long time
for this, and some waited even longer on
lines to play the slot machines that
were finally open at Gulfstream Park.
The slot machine casino opened to much
fanfare on Wednesday, and there were so
many people wanting to play, that there
were long lines at the slot machines.
There were many technical and legal
delays to the opening of the slot
machine casino, but customers thought it
was well worth the wait. “This is the
culmination of a great effort from many,
many people," said Gulfstream Park's
president, Paul Micucci
There
are 516 slot machines operating at the
park, and 7.5% of the gross revenue will
go to purses at the 2007 meet. The slot
machine casino had planned on staying
open until midnight on Wednesday – then
closed all day Thursday. Management said
it was prepping to have its official
opening to the general public on
Thursday, and many speculated that they
wanted the extra time to fix any
glitches that may have been discovered
during the slot machines’ preview.
With
everything taken care of, the slot
machine casino officially opened to the
public in Friday, and will run seven
days a week. The hours will be noon to
midnight on Sundays through Thursdays,
with shifted hours on Fridays and
Thursdays – 2 pm to 2 am. Poker will be
available as well as the slot machines –
running Thursdays through Mondays, and
simulcast wagering every day after 6 pm.
