Labor
Leaders for Slot Machines
The
Mahoning Valley labor leaders are in
support of bringing slot machines to
Ohio. The Learn and Earn group is
sponsoring a proposed constitutional
amendment to legalize slot machines in
Ohio to fund education. The measure
would take 30% of the slot machine
revenue and put it in an educational
fund for scholarships for high school
seniors.
The
slot machine revenue fund would start
helping the top 5% of seniors with
college expenses by 2009. They have to
attend a college or university in the
state, but labor leaders think that the
slot machine amendment is exactly what
the state needs. They think that slot
machines are the perfect way to bring in
additional revenue to support the
education system that has seen
skyrocketing tuition costs as of late.
Those
supporting the slot machine amendment
include Bill Padisak of the Ohio
Association of Public School Employees,
Larry Fauver of the Greater Youngstown
AFL-CIO, Debbie Bindas of the American
Federation of State, county and
Municipal Employees, and Don Crane of
the Western Reserve Building Trades
Council.
