Melco PBL Bringing More Slot Machines to
Macau
Melco
International Development has teamed
with Australia’s Publishing and
Broadcasting Ltd., in order to create
another slot machine parlor in Macau.
The joint venture between the two
companies, called Melco PBL, will be
opening another slot machine parlor next
month, as well as another two or three
slot machine parlors every year. With
each parlor housing two to three hundred
slot machines, that is a lot more slot
machines coming in each year.
The
company currently has another venue for
their slot machines - they own and run
the Mocha Slot Club chain, which owns
roughly 22% of Macau’s gaming market.
They have over a thousand slot machines
already operating through lease
agreements they had made with Sociedade
de Jogos de Macau to operate the gaming
projects.
Earlier this year, Melco PBL agreed to
buy the last sub-concession to own and
operate slot machine resort properties
in Macau from Wynn Resorts for the
bargain price of $900 million. This
strategic move made them one of the six
major players in Macau’s slot machine
industry. The others are much more
household names: Wynn Resorts, Galaxy
Entertainment Group, Las Vegas Sands,
MGM Mirage and SJM.
Melco
PBL is planning on opening their first
property in the second quarter of next
year, and it will be called Crown Macau.
The slot machine and gambling
hotel/casino will have 216 guest rooms,
gaming tables, and over 500 slot
machines. Their second property, the
City of Dreams resort, is planning on
opening in mid-2008. They are working on
a location for a third slot machine
casino, but nothing has been finalized
yet.
