More Slot Machines for New Jersey?
There
is nothing more New Jersey than Atlantic
City and the beaches; however, there
have been talks of bringing in slot
machines to other parts of the state to
keep up with the spread of gambling in
neighboring states. With New York and
Pennsylvania both bringing in slot
machines, it will end up drastically
cutting into the amount of slot machine
revenue that New Jersey current sees.
With
this in mind, the Meadowlands has been
considering bringing in slot machines of
their own. They are not all that close
to Atlantic City so they wouldn’t be
taking the majority of their business,
but because of their proximity to the
West side of the state, they may bring
in some slot machine business from
neighboring states, and thus help NJ
hold onto some of that revenue.
New
Jersey residents are split on the idea,
as they think that one major gaming area
in New Jersey is more than enough, and
they think that by adding the slot
machines to the Meadowlands it will
cause slot machines to start cropping up
all over the state. Others think it is a
good idea, as they think that this is
the perfect way to continue to lure
customers from the other states. Those
that work in the gambling addiction
industry worry that by bringing slot
machines to the arena you are just going
to increase the number of gambling
addictions that NJ already has.
