O’Malley Thinking About Slot Machines
Governor-elect
Martin O’Malley has already said that he
supports legalizing slot machines at
Maryland’s racetracks, so in the next
four years the state could see some
major changes. He is not alone in his
positive outlook on the slot machines;
many other members of the government are
up for legalizing them as well.
Senate President
Thomas Mike Miller, Jr., said that he
thinks the slot machines could bring in
much needed revenue for their schools.
He is determined to see that O’Malley
stays with his goal to bring in the slot
machines. ‘‘He can’t backpedal on that,”
Miller said of O’Malley’s slots stance.
‘‘We need the resources.”
However, Michael
Busch, is opposed to slot machines. He
wants other things handled before they
go back to looking at slot machines. He
said that they have not projected
revenues for the next fiscal year yet,
and doesn’t want to waste any more time
on trying to legalize slot machines.
Trying to legalize the slot machines
became the bane of the last governor’s
existence, and Busch does not want to
see it happen again – besides the fact
that he scored major political victories
in keeping the slot machines illegal.
