Machines Changing with Demand
The
Global Gaming Expo in Las Vegas is one
way for slot machine manufacturers to
show off their new machines; in fact, it
is probably the best way for them to do
it. The slot machine industry’s leading
manufacturers get together to talk
styles and changes in the way things are
done, and to show how the slot machine
industry is ever changing with the
demand of their customers.
This
year there were hand-held and wireless
gaming devices, server based slot
machines, downloadable slot machines,
and electronic table games. Mark
Yoseloff, Chariman of Shuffle Master,
said that although there are plenty of
slot machine choices, it ultimately
comes down to what the consumer chooses
to play. "As much as we think we can
predict, we always can't predict
correctly," Yoseloff said. "My company
is investing in a number of initiatives.
Obviously, we're hopeful they can all be
successful. Realistically, some will be
more successful than others. But if you
don't venture and make the investment,
certainly nothing new will come to
market."
The
discussion ultimately wound its way
around to the expansion of slot machines
and gambling in Macau. Table gaming is
already very popular over there, and the
casinos are still trying to find out
what the most popular slot machines will
turn out to be. More than 90% of the
revenue from Macau is currently coming
from the table games and normally slot
machines supply the majority of the
revenue. They know that if they could
just figure out which slot machines will
catch on, that the amount of revenue
that will be coming from Macau will at
least double.
