Machines Draw from Far Away
People traveled
from as far away as Buffalo, NY and
Quebec, Canada to be there for the
opening of the first slot machine casino
in Pennsylvania. The Mohegan Sun at
Pocono Downs opened its doors Tuesday
and welcomed over 14,000 slot machine
players its first day alone. Many were
convinced that the best day to play the
slot machines is the first day, as
“everyone knows they are the loosest the
first day,” said one player.
The slot machine
revenue is earmarked for education
funding and tax relief, but that is not
why people were waiting to play. Those
that were there on Tuesday were looking
for a “jackpot” of their very own, and
they came from far and wide to try and
win one at the slot machines. Many slot
machine players believe that the casinos
make the slot machines “loose” on the
first few days of an opening so that
people will keep coming. A loose slot
machine is one that seems to pay more
than average. The casinos say that this
is not true, that they do not “loosen”
up the slot machines for the first few
days, but customers aren’t buying it.
Even though there
were thousands waiting to play on
Tuesday, the security staff at the slot
machine casino was not concerned – and
they were right not to be. There turned
out to be hardly any problems, and
within moments of the casino being
opened, every slot machine was filled.
Alex Alexy was the first to actually
enter the slot machine casino, and
settled himself at one of the machines
planning on staying a while.
