Slot Machine Preview for Mohegan Sun
This
Friday night will be a banner day in
Pennsylvania history; it will mark the
day that slot machines were first
legally run in the state. The Mohegan
Sun at Pocono Downs in Luzerne County
will have a preview of the slot machines
for more than 1,000 people. The slot
machines will be open to the general
public on the 14th, but for now there is
just a select few that will be allowed
to play.
There
are a little over a thousand slot
machines in the casino, and they range
in wagering from one cent to $25 bets.
The main floor of the slot machine
casino will be non-smoking, which the
other floor will not. There is a food
area as well as a bar, and everyone
coming for the preview is helping the
casino test out the slot machines. "It
gives us an opportunity to break in
gaming in the commonwealth. It's a
controlled environment, invitation only.
All the invitations were provided by the
United Way because all of the proceeds
will actually benefit the United Way,"
said Robert Soper, Pocono Downs
president.
Everyone who wins will get to keep their
slot machine money, but any money the
casino brings in will go to the United
Way. That slot machine revenue is
earmarked for a program that will help
those with a gambling addiction. The
test will go until 11 pm.
