Machine Regulations Not Strict Enough
A group of residents and businessmen
from Philadelphia are asking the state
of Pennsylvania to hold off on the
issuing of slot machine licenses for
stand alone slot machine parlors. They
don’t think that the guidelines and
regulations that have been set up for
the issuing of those slot machine
licenses are clear enough, and therefore
the Pennsylvania Gaming Board will have
a hard time determining where those slot
machine licenses should go.
It comes down to the social impact that
the slot machines will have on the areas
that will be receiving the stand alone
slot machine casinos. They also think
that the gaming board has not made an
adequate effort to ask residents in the
perspective slot machine casino areas,
nor have they given them access to the
building plans for the stand alone slot
machine casinos.
They say that the issuing of the slot
machines and the stand alone slot
machine licenses has been a secretive
affair, and that residents have not
truly been allowed to give input. They
were given an opportunity to review the
slot machine casinos’ plans, but then
the slot machine casino candidates were
allowed to change their plans and
residents were not given access to those
new plans.
