Machines are Not Games of Skill
State
Attorney General Jim Petro’s office is
expected to make a comment as to the
validity of slot machines being
amusement games. There has been an
influx of gaming parlors where more and
more slot machines are being brought in
under the guise that they are games of
skill. The law says that games of skill
can be allowed, but not games of chance
like slot machines.
Mr. Petro is planning on making
statement once and for all deciding
whether or not slot machines are the
games that people are playing, or if
they really are games of skill. The
skill-game machines, as they are being
called, are a mixture of a video poker
game and a slot machine – and by all
reasoning they should be illegal.
Officials in other parts of the state
have been waiting for some sort of
ruling on the so-called non-slot
machines, but so far nothing has been
put on the record up until now.
The manufacturers of these slot machines
say that they are skill based, as if you
memorize random pictures as they flash
on the screen, and then you push the
button at the right time to stop them,
you can determine the outcome of the
game. If they are correct, then
officially they are not slot machines,
as then it would actually require some
skill. However, if what they are saying
can be done is actually not really
something that can be accomplished, then
they are slot machines, period.
