Wilkes-Barre Gets Slot Machines
Roughly 1,500 people were invited into
the casino yesterday to try out the new
slot machines in Wilkes-Barre. It was
officially a Pennsylvania first as the
casino officials turned on the state’s
first legal slot machines at the Mohegan
Sun at Pocono Downs.
The
slot machines will not be officially
open to the public until Tuesday, but
the temporary run will let the casino
know what changes need to be made, and
what they can expect from their
customers.
According to the state’s Gaming Control
Board, the test ran smoothly and the
slot machines had already paid out
jackpots to some people. The slot
machines at the Mohegan Sun are the
first of 14 casinos that are expected to
be up and running over the next two
years.
The
state has legalized up to 61,000 slot
machines to be brought in across the
state which could make Pennsylvania one
of the nation’s biggest states for slot
machines. Currently the three biggies
are Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and
Illinois, but that could all change.
