Sees Drop in Revenue
It is no
secret that the casinos have been having
a hard time of it lately, trying to keep
revenues up while the economy has been
sinking. There has been a lot of
speculation and the numbers to back it
up, that a lot of the land based casino
business has been traveling to the
online casino industry instead.
Many feel that they can play slot
machines online for a lot less money,
and they win more often. This, coupled
with the economy, has made things
difficult for casinos all over the
world. Now it is hitting Atlantic City,
NJ.
According to the state’s Casino Control
Commission, Atlantic City’s casinos have
seen a 9.9% drop in their revenue in
October – based upon their numbers from
a year ago. The casinos have seen their
slot machines standing empty at a time
when usually they are humming.
Revenue is down to $346.2 million, which
is down from last year as well as
previous months. There was a 15.1% drop
in September which is the highest drop
they have seen in the 30 years that the
slot machines have been running in town.
The slot machines are always the biggest
revenue source for the casinos, and they
are just not performing up to par. The
amount of “win” from the slot machines
was only $235.9 million, proving once
again that they are not bringing in the
money they should as many have now
turned to the online slot machines
instead.
