Fair
Grounds and Slot Machines
The Fair
Grounds might be saying that the races
are the thrust and the focus of their
establishment, but they seem to be the
only ones who think that. In fact,
everyone else is simply waiting for the
slot machines’ permanent facility to be
opened so they can play to their heart’s
content.
Churchill Downs, Inc. is the track’s
parent company, and they say that they
have been working hard to get people in
to watch the races. They say that the
slot machines are simply a means to an
end. They have been preparing for race
day, and the slot machines have simply
helped them make it better than it was.
The slot machines have enabled the track
to increase their purses, which
ultimately leads to the nation’s top
horses wanting to compete in their
races. They say that by bringing in the
better horses, they ultimately bring in
more clients. People want to see horses
run that they recognize from the bigger,
more successful tracks and they want to
be that kind of track.
They say that they will be promoting the
slot machine parlor as well, but it will
not be their main focus. After all, it
is the slot machines that are enabling
them to have such a better year. They
say that last year their purses averaged
somewhere around $342,000 a day. This
year, they will be averaging closer to
$375,000 a day. This is a substantial
difference for the track, and enables
them to compete on a much higher level.
