Lodge
Wants Slot Machine Type Games
New
Hampshire residents could be taking a
big step towards legalizing slot
machines if a local track gets their
way. The Lodge at Belmont’s owners would
like to bring in slot machine type games
to shore up revenues and bring in more
business. However, those opposed to the
idea say that they are simply looking to
bring in slot machines and they won’t
stand for it.
The track says that the games are not
slot machines, and that they are simply
looking at terminals that support horse
racing. The Instant Racing terminals
would allow patrons to bet on the
outcome of races that have already taken
place. They say that if they were games
of chance then you could call them slot
machines, but that as the player can
determine the outcome of the game then
they aren’t.
However, the games look an awful lot
like slot machines which has those
opposed to them calling foul. They say
that the proposal is simply another way
of bringing in slot machines to a state
that doesn’t want them. They are fully
aware that the proposal comes at the
same time that the state has been
looking at additional sources of revenue
and talk of slot machine legalization
has been floating around. They are
strictly opposed to them on a state
level, and on a local level.
The biggest difference between the slot
machines and the terminals is that with
slot machines you are playing the
machine, and with the terminals your
money is being pooled like pari-mutuel
betting, which is legal in the state.
