Maryland
Divided Over Slot Machines
Depending
on the answer to Question 2 on
Maryland’s ballot, the state will either
have or not have access to slot machines
come November 5th. However, in the
meantime the state is divided over which
is the better route for the people of
the state.
Some say that the slot machines will
bring money; some say that it will bring
crime, and others still say that it will
bring both. This is not a good thing for
the people of Maryland, for whoever ends
up winning; there will be at least half
of the state that isn’t happy.
Some say that residents need to accept
the influx of slot machines as it will
bring a lot of money to the state’s
schools. They say that their education
will flourish under the slot machines,
and without them they can never hope to
accomplish the same things.
Others say that the education stance is
merely a smoke screen for those that
will be making money from the slot
machines. They say that the majority of
money will be going to the tracks and
horses and not education, and that the
state will merely be bringing in money
to support them.
In addition, they say that they will be
looking at increased crime and gambling
addiction if the slot machines are
legalized. They say that there is a
price to be paid, and they are wondering
what it will be when the slot machines
finish rolling in. If approved, the
state would be bringing in up to 15,000
new slot machines to the state.
