Tribes
Feel (Rightfully) Gypped
The
tribes in Maine have been denied a slot
machine casino on three separate
occasions, which truly does not seem
right. The tribe has seen other slot
machines and casinos get approved, but
theirs has not been. One cannot help but
think it is clearly discrimination
against the tribe, even though the state
says that it isn’t.
How else would you explain however, the
fact that slot machines have been
approved at racetracks and that Bangor
approved a casino – even though the
tribe has been turned down repeatedly?
The tribes have been turned down each
time they tried, and now it looks as
though another company may get the
approval to bring in a casino.
On Tuesday, voters will decide whether
or not they will allow a Las Vegas
company to bring in a casino, even
though the tribe still does not have
one. One year they voted down slot
machines for the tribe while approving
the casino in Bangor. When asked if they
feel resentment against the state they
say that they have already put up with
so much racism that they are “numb” to
it now.
The latest slot machine casino is going
to be built in Oxford County if it is
approved. Olympia Gaming is proposing a
large casino in the middle of the town
that would bring in up to 1,500 slot
machines. It would also bring in table
games and a hotel, and it looks as
though it might get passed.
