Denying Slot Machine Wins

William Seeback was playing at a casino in Tampa when he won $166 million. However, he was then told that the slot machine made a mistake and that he didn’t win anything. Huh? It used to be that you would hear about slot machine wins that were “malfunctions” every now and then. However, some say that a disturbing trend has begun and that is the one where you hear about them more often than not. Slot machine wins are easy, if you put in the coin at the right time you win whatever the pay out is for that machine. However, as of late this does not seem to be the case.

More often these days you are hearing about slot machines not paying out because of a malfunction with the machine. In some cases the floor attendants will even confirm the win and get you all excited before they then turn around and say that they were wrong and that you didn’t actually win. As a slot machine player, how are you supposed to know which one is the truth and which one is simply them not wanting to pay out a large amount of money?

Each and every slot machine has a disclaimer on it that says that in case of malfunction that the casino does not have to pay out the slot machine. This is all fine and dandy, but how do you really know if you have won or not, except to take the word of the casino. And one other problem with this is that if you have sat there for let’s say a couple of hours and have pumped $500 or more into this slot machine who is to say that it hasn’t been “malfunctioning” the whole time and you should have actually won much earlier. This claim of a malfunctioning machine only protects the casino, not the player.

Some are simply refusing to take it lying down anymore. If they “win” at a slot machine and are denied their cash pay out, they are getting lawyers and suing the casino. They say that the casino does not have the end say on whether or not they get paid out, and for someone who may have won $166 million like Mr. Seeback, it is well worth trying to get at least a portion of that win.
