Foxwoods Gets
a Push from PA
Pennsylvania is a mess when it comes
to slot machines. The states’ residents
voted to allow slot machines within
their borders, and that was probably the
last thing they agree upon. One of the
biggest bones of contention is the
Philadelphia casinos that are supposed
to be coming in. Residents may have
voted for the slot machine casinos to
come in, but they don't like where they
are going. They want them placed on the
outskirts of town, but the state could
not care less.
However, one of the casinos who is
bringing slot machines is actually
listening to the residents. The Foxwoods
Casino, mostly known for its Connecticut
counterpart, was awarded one of the slot
machine licenses to bring in a casino to
Philadelphia. However once they got
there, they realized that residents were
fairly upset with the idea of where they
wanted to put them. They decided to
listen to residents and look at other
locations as possibilities.
However, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control
Board told Foxwoods to get on it and
start building a slot machine casino. As
the casino has continued to explore
other avenues, but board has now warned
them that if they don't get those slot
machines up and running soon that they
are pulling their license. Foxwoods
might be on the side of Philadelphia
residents, but they are going to have to
start building a casino if they want to
keep their license.
The board has ordered them to have 1500
slot machines open by May 2011 and they
have let them know that if they continue
looking at other locations than what
they have specified that they are more
than willing to give that license to
another company.
