Miami Dade Trying to Get Slot Machines 

Miami Dade Airport officials announced earlier this year that they wanted to see slot machines brought into their location. They say that the number of tourists that they get, that simply stop at the airport on their way to another destination, would welcome the ability to play the slot machines at their site. They say that the amount of money that they have the ability to bring in from the extra income source should be reason enough for the approval. 

However, local racinos say that they think it is a bad idea. They think that it will take money from their slot machines if people can just go to their airport. They say that they are already starting to have problems in this economy with supporting the slot machines that they have, and that to add any additional ones would be a bad idea.  

Local casinos say that they don’t need the money as much as they do in order to keep the casinos open, but the airport says that this is not the case. They argue that the slot machines could help them pay for a recent expansion that they had, and that they are going to be paying off for a very long time.  

However, city commissioners have moved forward with their plan to bring in the slot machines, and they voted to apply for a permit. They know that the battle ahead of them is going to be a tough one as Tallahassee is not in favor of adding any more slot machines at this time.
