Request Has Been Put on Hold
Hollywood Slots in Maine wants some new slot
machines to be approved, but they have
been shot down in their attempts. They
say that the new slot machines are
necessary but the board says that they
believe that any addition needs to be
approved by legislative approval and
have told them that they need to hold
off on them for now.
Maine’s
Gambling Control Board informed the
casino that any requests for slot
machines would have to be put on hold
for now until they find out the proper
procedure for adding slot machines or
for changing them out. The casino, which
is really a racino, says that they are
not asking for an increase in the number
of slot machines they are simply asking
to swap them out for a different kind.
They
do not feel that this is something that
has to go before the state government,
as it is simply an improvement on the
kinds of games that they already offer.
They claim that this new slot machine
will increase the players and the amount
of money that they make as it is their
way of meeting the public’s needs.
However, Peter Danton of the board says
that it isn’t that they are asking for
new slot machines, it is the kind of
slot machines that they are asking for.
They say that the new slot machines are
card games and that even though they are
calling them something else they are
still a card game which would make them
illegal in the state. He says that they
may not comply with state law.
The
issue has been tabled for now while they
review the slot machine law to see what
further action needs to be taken.
