Thinking of Adding to Slot Machines
West
Virginia
is only the latest state to consider
bringing in table games with their slot
machines. The state already sees a nice
profit from the slot machines that they
offer their residents, but now they are
thinking that by adding in table games
as well that they might be looking at a
nice chunk of change to go with that
revenue. Up until now residents have
been dead set against bringing in table
games and have maintained that the slot
machines are enough. However, this point
of view might be changing.
Charles Town Races
and Slots has really been spearheading
the campaign to bring in table games
with their slot machines. The track says
that the slot machines are not bringing
in enough money, so in order to save the
jobs that are there they are urging
residents to approve them. There are
some 500 jobs in jeopardy at the race
track, and it could make a big
difference to the economy of the area if
they were approved.
Not only that, but
they say that the slot machines have all
of their employees already. They claim
that if they bring in table games on top
of the slot machines that they are going
to need more employees – which in of
itself is a big draw for many residents.
They are aware that there is a recession
going on and many of them have already
been laid off of their jobs.
Those that are against the addition of
the table games say that the slot
machines are more than enough. They say
that the track needs to figure out how
to make it without expanding gambling in
any way. However, considering the fact
that the measure lost 56% to 44% last
time and more people are out of jobs
this time – there is a good chance it
will pass.
