Trailer Park Casino
The OPP’s
Organized Crime Illegal Gambling Unit is
cracking down on illegal slot machine
operations, and their latest target was
a trailer park near Sebright according
to police. Last Thursday, police busted
an illegal gambling operation and seized
five illegal slot machines.
The illegal slot machines were located
at the Meadows End Trailer Park, located
on Day Drive in City of Kawartha Lakes.
Two people were arrested for allegedly
operating the illegal slot machines.
Patrick George McChesney, 37, was
charged with allowing his place to be
used as an illegal gaming house as well
as keeping the slot machines for use in
gambling. Florence Guy, 58, was charged
with keeping a common gaming house as
well as keeping the slot machines for
gambling.
The police said that the illegal slot
machines were video machines that “would
not meet the criteria” that they would
have had to meet for them to be in a
legal casino. The slot machines would
give their players credits, which they
would trade for cash. The credits cost
five cents each, and if they played $20
they would get 400 credits.
As it is illegal to gamble anywhere
except a licensed casino in Ontario,
police say residents should be aware
that they are committing a crime when
they patronize an illegal slot machine
establishment. They said that the slot
machines are usually owned and run by
the same people, and at the end of the
day, they get to keep whatever money is
left in there.
