Machines at Aqueduct
According
to reports, New York Governor David
Paterson and the Assembly’s Democratic
majority has chosen Delaware North
Companies Gaming and Entertainment to
handle the slot machines at the Aqueduct
race track. The bid would give the state
a nice share of the slot machine
proceeds as well as $370 million up
front.
However, the Senate needs approval from
the Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos
and the Republican majority. They say
that before they can approve the slot
machine deal they want to see plans for
more local jobs and neighborhood
improvements.
The slot machine management company is
out of Buffalo and was chosen to build
and operate the slot machine facility
because it was the most immediate cash
offered by any of the three bidders. The
facility that they would be building
would be at the race track, and would
house 4,500 slot machines.
The Assembly says that they support the
governor’s choice, but they want to see
the community concerns addressed before
they go ahead. With meetings still
continuing on, a final approval has not
been issued yet. The other two bidders
had not yet conceded on the deal either.
With Election Day coming up, the
politicians are carefully weighing the
deal so that they make the best possible
choice to keep them in office. With the
governor endorsing Democratic candidates
they want to be sure that they are
careful about their decision.
