Arundel Slot Split
If
legislators at any point thought that
getting slot machines in Maryland might
be easy, they could not have been more
mistaken. The state seems about split on
whether or not slot machines should be
legalized, and now it seems that the
Arundel community is getting involved as
well.
With slot machines being considered on
the November ballot to be legalized;
those in Anne Arundel County are
concerned about what it means for them.
They will be, after all, the site of the
state’s largest slot machine parlor.
Some say that it will simply bring in
more crime and traffic and that there is
nothing good to be had from inundating
their community with them. Others say
that the amount of revenue to be had
from slot machines speaks for itself.
They say that there are major economic
gains to be had from them, and that they
should be approved.
Those that are opposed to the slot
machines say that there is a high amount
of addiction that comes to the host of
slot machine parlors – and this is a
price their community should not have to
pay. Others say that the money that
comes from the slot machines can do a
lot of good, and fund many programs that
they are either struggling with or doing
without.
There are four other locations that
could get the slot machines as well, but
Anne Arundel seems to be the most under
fire at the moment. A slot machine
facility could actually be built
anywhere in the county, but it seems
that the focus is on the area around the
mall and the airport.
