Bond
Gets Probation for Illegal Slot Machines
Carroll
“Roy” Bond of Cockeysville received
probation for operating illegal slot
machines in Baltimore County. Bond was
charged with 110 counts of operating
said illegal slot machines at 41
different locations around the county.
As he stood before the court on October
29th however, the judge only allowed a
statement of charges to be reason on
three of those locations.
As part of a plea agreement, Bond let
prosecutors read the statement, just as
the hearing was about to begin.
Prosecutors had shown up with a
truckload of illegal slot machines as
well as large binders and boxes of
evidence to try their case.
According to Jill Savage, the Assistant
State’s Attorney, they were planning on
calling 10 of the 41 bar and restaurant
owners who had agreed to testify against
Bond. The witnesses had been offered
immunity from state and federal
prosecution.
Savage said that with their case as
tight as it was, added to the upcoming
testimony against Bond, taking the plea
was his best bet. He and one of his
employees had entered into agreements
with the various establishments across
the county. He would then give payouts
to the players and the establishments
would split the money in the slot
machines with him.
Sometimes he would get as much as 60-40
of the split from the slot machines
according to Savage. Prosecutors read
regarding the seizure of more than half
of a dozen illegal slot machines from
three of the locations. They also seized
about 100 other illegal slot machines
from 38 other locations.
