Christians Upset Over Slot Machines
It would
seem that someone felt it appropriate to
blend religion and slot machines in a
manner that many are finding completely
inappropriate. International Game
Technology has released a new slot
machine entitled “Noah’s Ark” and many
are just not finding the humor in it.
The five reel slot machine is a penny
wager, and has cartoon animals as well
as a cartoon Noah. You get the jackpot
by pairing up animals – hence the title.
However, any reasonable resemblance to
the Book of Genesis ends there.
According to IGT, it has tested well
with audiences, but the folks in the
Midwest were obviously not among their
testing audience. The game has been
approved for use in Missouri and its
residents are less than pleased with the
comparison.
IGT says that it wasn’t meant to have
any kind of biblical reference, it was
simply meant as a joke with pairs of
animals. However, those in Missouri are
not buying it. Ralph Colas of the
American Council of Christian Churches
says that not only does he object to
them, he doesn’t find them remotely
funny.
He says that there are things that are
sacred, and attaching stories from the
Bible to slot machines is disrespectful.
He is not alone in his thinking as
church members feel the same way he
does.
