Illegal Slot Machine Raid
Jones
County and Gray stores were the site of
a police raid on illegal slot machines
last week. More than $140,000 in cash
was seized by police from the illegal
slot machines.
The stores in question had been
operating illegally and had been under
investigation for the illegal slot
machines. According to Capt. Earl
Humphries of the Jones County Sheriff’s
Department, all of the stores had been
investigated with the first part of it
simply determining which ones were
acting illegally and which ones were
not.
They said that the slot machines are not
illegal as long as they are not paying
out in cash. However, those
establishments that thwart Georgia law
and pay out their slot machines
illegally will be prosecuted.
According to the captain ten warrants
were executed on October 2nd, and both
the cash and receipts were taken from
the businesses. One of the
establishments could not be served as
they had changed ownership between the
time the warrant was served and it was
obtained.
The warrants on the illegal slot machine
establishments were executed
simultaneously at 5 pm. They were
assisted in this endeavor by the Gray
Police Department and the US Marshall’s
Fugitive Task Force.
